Intel Testifies in EU Antitrust Hearings

(Newser) – Intel officials testified before an EU antitrust commission yesterday in Brussels; the chipmaker is suspected of unfairly dominating the European market. Competitor Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and consumer groups are testifying today, reports the Wall Street Journal. The commission will consider whether rebates Intel offered to retailers that didn’t stock AMD products hurt consumers.

"We're trying to convince the commission that this is a competitive market” that favors consumers, said an Intel rep. "There is already now a limitation to consumer choice," countered a consumer advocate, saying that AMD has been left out of some high-end computer markets. Intel faces a similar lawsuit in the US.
