Louisville police had to deal with a strange domestic violence incident Sept. 17 after Jesse Haigler Jr., 38, and another man (the two "formerly lived together as a couple," police say) got into a fight while in the alleged victim's car in a hotel parking lot. Haigler allegedly pulled the other man's key out of the ignition and then left for his own car; the other man then climbed onto the roof of Haigler's car in an attempt to get the car keys, WDRB reports. As the alleged victim grabbed the door frame through Haigler's open window, police say Haigler rolled up the window, trapping the other man's hand, and drove away ... and onto the interstate, all while the alleged victim was still on the roof of the car as Haigler drove "at highway speeds," per court documents.
After exiting I-65, police say, Haigler finally rolled the window back down, then "accelerated and used oncoming traffic lanes to pass cars waiting [at] a red light, and turned east onto Chestnut at a high rate of speed," allegedly causing the other man to fall to the pavement as Haigler drove away. The other man had been on the hood of the car for miles, WAVE reports. The alleged victim suffered broken facial bones, a left hand injury, road rash, and a brain bleed; Haigler was arrested Monday and charged with assault and wanton endangerment.
