(Newser) – The Taliban's top military commander was killed in Southern Afghanistan, and his body  displayed, covered by a pink sheet, in Kandahar today. An amputee whose body was recognizable in part by a missing leg, Mullah Dadullah was killed in a joint operation by Afghan security forces and American and NATO troops.

“Tell your honorable people, and journalists, to live in peace now—the people have now been rescued from the cruelty of this wild butcher,”  said Asadullah Khaled, the governor of Kandahar. Mullaah Dadulla is thought to be responsible for many assassinations, kidnappings, beheadings, and suicide bombings, in addition to organizing fighters and obtaining weapons.
