Tehran's Top Cop Nabbed in Brothel

Posted Mar 12, 08 4:17 PM CDT in Crime & Courts World

(Newser) – The man in charge of "moralizing" Iran's capital city is out of a job after being arrested during a raid on a Tehran brothel, Ynetnews reports. Police chief Reza Zarei, who had led crackdowns on women who disobeyed strict Islamic dress codes, was caught naked with six prostitutes in the recent raid and, according to unofficial sites, resigned his post.

Police raided the brothel on the orders of Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, Iran's top judicial authority. In the past six months, Zarei’s forces have allegedly arrested hundreds on moral violations. Zarei’s own arrest has been rumored for weeks, though it was not reported by official sources and instead broken by Farda News, a site close to a former Tehran mayor.
