Ferraro Quits Clinton Post

Posted Mar 12, 08 8:06 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – Geraldine Ferraro left her honorary post in the Clinton campaign today amid turmoil over her comment that if Barack Obama were white, "he would not be in this position." Ferraro stands by that assertion but says the Obama camp has twisted her remarks out of context. "I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself," she wrote Clinton.

"The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won't let that happen," she said. Despite resigning, Ferraro will keep raising money for Clinton, CNN reports. By her own reports, she's already raised $125,000. Camp Clinton distanced itself from Ferraro after the flap, though both women have said there are no hard feelings between the two.
