A Phoenix family of five is dead after their SUV plunged into a lake in Tempe, Arizona, reports ABC15. Police say Glenn Baxter, 27, wife Danica, 25, and kids Reighn, 3, Nazyiah, 2, and Zariyah, 1, drowned when the vehicle went over an embankment shortly after midnight Sunday into Tempe Town Lake, reports the Arizona Republic. How it happened is unclear—witnesses report seeing the vehicle on the embankment with its headlights on before hearing a crash. "We don't know exactly what happened," says a police rep. "We don't know what led the driver to do this."

Glenn Baxter was in the driver's seat when officers arrived on the scene and pulled him, his wife, and the two younger children from the vehicle unconscious. All were pronounced dead at the hospital. It was only then that authorities realized the 3-year-old was missing, and Reighn was later found in the vehicle, still strapped to his car seat. "These are three little kids, completely innocent," the police rep says. "No way to save themselves." He adds: "You can't help but feel heartbroken." (More drowning stories.)
