Phil's Getting His Groove Back

Posted May 14, 07 6:45 AM CDT in Sports    Editor's Choice

(Newser) – Less than a year after a monumental 16th- and 18th-hole collapse at the 2006 U.S. Open, Phil Mickelson demonstrated his recovered mojo at the PGA Players Championship, cruising to a 69 on the final 18 en route to an 11-under 277.  The one blip was an 18th-hole shot that stopped just short of the water.

Mickelson can credit his new swing instructor, Butch Harmon, who tutored Tiger Woods until 2004. Sean O'Hair, Mickelson's playing partner, was in the mix until a quadruple-bogey 17th hole that he hit into the water twice. O'Hair ended up in 11th place.  Woods finished at 37th.
