Villanova Ousted by Dominant Georgetown

Posted Mar 13, 08 10:32 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Just a day after routing Syracuse 82-63, Villanova fell to No. 1 seeded Georgetown by the exact same score in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.  On the bubble entering today’s game, the loss likely ends any hope of an NCAA berth for the Wildcats. Georgetown dominated from 3-point range hitting 17 of 28 - tying a tournament record.  More Big East results:

  • West Virginia moves on to face Georgetown in the semifinals after defeating 15th-ranked UConn, 78-72. Joe Alexander continued his recent domination, scoring a career-high 32 points for the Mountaineers.
  • It took an extra five minutes for Pittsburgh to overcome No. 13 Louisville, 76-69. The Panthers will face the winner of Marquette-Notre Dame.
