Wowie! Maui Gas Hits $4

Posted Mar 14, 08 9:45 AM CDT in Business US

(Newser) – The price of gas in the US hit another record this morning of $3.28 a gallon, CNN reports, but at least one part of the nation thinks that would be a great bargain. On Maui, $4 gas has already arrived in many places, and the island is on the verge of becoming the first part of the country to average that price, the AP notes.

"It's just the price of living here," said one resident. "At the same time, it's not going to get me to move back to the mainland to pay a buck less for a gallon of gasoline." Hawaii’s economy is sensitive to oil prices, now about $110 a barrel, because it imports 90% of its energy, the AP notes.

While the price of oil soaring, most Americans dread the day they will have to pay $4. On Maui, that day has arrived.   (AP Photo/Hugh E. Gentry)
