No. 1 Tar Heels Clip Seminoles

(Newser) – All-American Tyler Hansbrough scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half as North Carolina sent Florida State packing, 82-70, in the ACC quarterfinals. The Tar Heels got back to their game in the second half: working inside, drawing contact and attempting 21 free throws, reports the Charlotte Observer. FSU's NCAA tournament chances are now pretty slim. In other action:

  • Duke saw nearly all of a 20-point lead evaporate against a game Georgia Tech team but held to win 82-70, advancing to the ACC semifinals. Five Blue Devils scored in double figures.
  • Justin Mason converted a key driving layup late in the game as Texas held off Oklahoma State, 66-59. D.J. Augustin led the Longhorns with 24 points.

    UNC Ousts Duke for ACC Title No. 6 Duke has lost only once at Cameron Indoor Stadium this season, but it is one loss too many as far as the ACC title goes. Top-ranked North Carolina got 16 points and 15 rebounds from Tyler Hansbrough en route to beating their bitter rival Blue Devils 76-68 last night, reports the Associated Press. More »

  • Back at No. 1, UNC Routs Florida State

    The University of North Carolina celebrated its return to the top of the national rankings by drubbing Florida State 90-77. Tyler Hansbrough shot 10-of-11 from the line, scored 20 points, and grabbed 9 rebounds as No.1 UNC cruised to victory. The win ensures that the Tar Heels’ Saturday meeting at No. 6 Duke will determine the ACC’s regular-season champion, reports the Associated Press. More »

    Devils Too Much For Heels Greg Paulus scored 18 points as the No. 2 Duke Blue Devils beat the shorthanded No. 3 Tar Heels 89-78. North Carolina was playing without their starting point guard Ty Lawson, who sprained his ankle against Florida State on Sunday.
