New Orleans police say they've arrested a man accused of shooting a medical student who stopped an apparent kidnapping. A police spokesman says in a brief news release that police and federal marshals arrested 21-year-old Euric Cain of New Orleans at a house late Monday morning. He was wanted on charges of armed robbery, second-degree kidnapping, and attempted first-degree murder.

Tulane University says fourth-year medical student Peter Gold continues to improve but remained in guarded condition Monday. Surveillance video released by police shows a man dragging a woman toward an SUV early Friday, and Gold pulling up and trying to help her. Police say the man demanded money and shot Gold when he said he didn't have any. The woman was treated for minor injuries. (More New Orleans stories.)
