A Sharp-Eyed Savior: 5 Great Things This Week
Christina and Tarek El Moussa, hosts of 'Flip or Flop' on HGTV.   (HGTV)

A TV viewer who followed a hunch and a daughter's moving gesture toward her dad were among the good-news stories of the week:

  • Observant Viewer Saves TV Host: Tarek El Moussa, the co-host of HGTV's real estate and renovation show Flip or Flop, is in remission after a bout with thyroid cancer and has an observant viewer to thank. She spotted a telltale sign while watching the show, and her urgent plea to have it checked out was heeded.
  • Daughter Weds in Hospital So Dad Can Give Her Away: Jubal Early Kirby, 49, is terminally ill with a lung disease and hospitalized in Charlotte, NC. But he still was able to give away daughter Kaila because she not only moved up her wedding by months, she changed its locale—to the hospital. Some generous strangers made it even more special.
  • Soccer Team Jerseys Drop Sponsor for Paris Tribute: The Paris Saint-Germain soccer team has (temporarily) ditched a major sponsor from its jerseys and replaced it with a message: "Je Suis Paris" ("I am Paris"). The company that got bumped is fine with the move.

  • Recluse Dies, Leaves Incredible Gift to Charity: A blind California recluse left $125 million to San Francisco nonprofit LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, an amount that is more than 15 times the group's annual budget. Its director never met the donor, but he can relate to the man's situation.
  • Cruise Ship 'Miracle Baby' Going Home: Little Haiden Morgan is finally back in Utah. The baby born 15 weeks prematurely on a Royal Caribbean cruise—and not expected to live—was reunited with his family at Ogden Airport after a stint in Miami. He'll stay in a local hospital for more treatment, but his family expects him home for Christmas. The original sea-to-hospital rush was quite dramatic.
