Unlikely Star For Pistons in Romp Over Hornets

Posted Mar 16, 08 8:17 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Jarvis Hayes scored 29 points in 25 minutes as the Pistons overcame an early 13-point deficit to easily defeat New Orleans 105-84, reports the Detroit News. Hayes said he was "riding that wave" from his alma mater, the Georgia Bulldogs, who surprisingly won the SEC championship today. Hayes made 10 of 13 shots and left to a standing ovation from Pistons fans.

Team-oriented Detroit, besides maintaining a stronghold on the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, improved to 24-0 this season when having at least 25 assists. Hayes was frequently teamed with Tayshaun Prince, causing serious matchup problems for the smaller Hornets. Point guard Chris Paul led New Orleans with 14 points, 14 assists despite a sore left ankle.
