Oilers Squeak Past Streaking Sharks

(Newser) – Backup goalie Dwayne Roloson brought his A-game today as Edmonton bested San Jose in a shootout, 2-1. The Oilers ended a franchise-record 11-game winning streak for the Sharks. Ales Hemsky scored the lone goal for Edmonton in regulation, while Robert Nilsson and Fernando Pisani were credited with goals in the shootout. Joe Pavelski scored for the Sharks.  Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Manny Maholtra and the Columbus Blue Jackets enjoyed a rare win over the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3. Maholtra contributed two goals and an assist in the win, while Fredrik Norrena recorded 43 saves for Columbus.
  • The Panthers extended their win streak by defeating the Atlanta Thrashers 3-1. The win is the seventh-straight for Florida, tying a franchise record.
