An American woman was shot to death in Kabul on Sunday night, though the details surrounding her killing remain unclear, reports NBC News. The victim is Lisa Akbari, a veteran of the US Army who became an aid worker upon leaving the military in 2013. She has dual US-Afghan citizenship, reports NBC. A male suspect has been detained. The BBC reports that police say a "mullah" killed Akbari while she was at a gym in her Kabul neighborhood, but little more was known.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones on their loss," says the US Embassy, confirming the death. Akbari's sister paid homage to her "beautiful older sister" on Facebook. "I promise the psychopath that killed you will have justice served to him," writes Mayana Aliah Akbari. (More Afghanistan stories.)
