UConn Leads Way in Women's NCAA Seeds

North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland also claim top spots

(Newser) – Four traditional powers in women’s college basketball, Connecticut, Tennessee, Maryland and North Carolina, are the No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament. The Tar Heels are the only team in that group never to have won a national championship. In order for UNC to change that, they may have to get past perennial title-hopeful LSU to reach the Final Four, reports the Associated Press.

UConn, led by freshman phenom Maya Moore, is the top overall seed after spending 12 of the last 13 weekends atop the AP poll. The potential matchup with rival and defending tournament champion Tennessee would have to wait until the championship game. "It's Tennessee and Connecticut. I think there's always a lot of hype," said Tennessee coach Pat Summitt
