Pierce, Celtics Top Spurs 93-91

Posted Mar 17, 08 11:24 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Boston Celtics came from behind and defeated the San Antonio Spurs 93-91 in Texas, despite being without the services of all-star Ray Allen, who missed his second consecutive game with a jammed left ankle. The Celtics other two stars stepped up in his absence; Paul Pierce scored 22 points and Kevin Garnett 21, while both grabbed eight rebounds, reports the Associated Press.

The newest Celtic, Sam Cassell, had his best game wearing the green. The veteran point guard scored 17 points in 28 minutes, including a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left that gave Boston its first lead of the fourth quarter. The Spurs, led by Manu Ginobili and his 32 points, almost pulled out a victory in the final seconds, but Boston proved too strong.
