A Change.org petition may be futile, but that hasn't stopped hundreds from signing their names. The mission: Bring David Bowie back to life. Created by a fan in Rome, the petition begs God to "say no to David Bowie dead" and currently has some 1,200 supporters. And that's just one of the many tributes to Bowie coming from around the globe. One of the most moving came during a gathering near Bowie's birthplace in London's Brixton area on Monday, per the Guardian. Hundreds of fans—some armed with musical instruments—sang their favorite Bowie songs, like "Space Oddity," in unison during a goosebumps-raising gathering. Nearby, a mural of Bowie at the Brixton Underground station was adorned with hundreds of flowers, reports Newsweek.

Flowers, candles, and glitter were also placed on Bowie's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and outside his former home in Berlin, reports the BBC, which notes that a tribute concert for Bowie, scheduled for March 31 at Carnegie Hall, will go on as planned. In a Facebook post, former Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, whose cover of "Space Oddity" became the first track recorded in space, calls Bowie a "genius." His death "leaves me and, I suspect, millions around the world, with an instant feeling of loss and emptiness—and yet also a wistful joy, a sense of how creative and inspirational just one of us can be," he writes, per Time. "Ashes to ashes, dust to stardust. Your brilliance inspired us all. Goodbye Starman." (More David Bowie stories.)
