A Missouri couple accused in a string of violent crimes across four states is on the run no more, reports WBRC. Police caught up with them in Florida early Friday morning, with the resulting shootout leaving Blake Fitzgerald, 30, dead and Brittany Harper, also 30, wounded in the leg or legs. The shootout near Pensacola came after a car chase, a foot chase, and then, somehow, another car chase, reports Al.com. Their crime spree allegedly began with a series of home break-ins in Missouri on Jan. 22, followed by several armed robberies, carjackings, and kidnappings in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. The spree earned them the nickname "Bonnie and Clyde" in headlines.

"It's unfortunate it ended this way, but that was their decision instead of surrendering," says a police official in Alabama. A motel clerk in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who police say was kidnapped by the pair told authorities that they planned to make it to Panama City to begin new lives. Fitzgerald has a long criminal history in Missouri, along with three children there, including an infant. (More fugitives stories.)
