A reunion 82 years in the making, a girl's heartbeat, and a nice move by plumbers in Flint are on the list:

  • Mother Sees Daughter for First Time in 82 Years: Lena Pierce gave birth to a daughter in 1933, but because she was only 14, authorities put the girl up for adoption. More than eight decades later, the pair reunited for the first time in New York state. Some accidental clues led to the happy day.
  • Plumbers Go Where They're Needed Most: Flint: Unlike some state officials, Michigan's plumbers aren't going to sit idly by while Flint residents drink lead-contaminated water. They've been busy installing donated filters and faucets for residents. So many stepped up that police had to play a role in helping out.
  • Mom Hears Son's Heartbeat One More Time: The mother of a boy who died in 2013 was able to hear his heart beat again—inside the body of a 4-year-old girl. Heather Clark donated her child's organs upon his death, leading to an emotional meeting and an incredible image.

  • Hungry Sea Lion Goes to Restaurant: Some good meals are still in store for a starving sea lion pup that found its way into one of San Diego's fanciest seafood restaurants. The 8-month-old female was taken to SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Center after staff at the Marine Room in La Jolla discovered it asleep in a booth. The photos are priceless.
  • Bald Eagles Make Big Comeback in Boston: A symbol of America is once again flying high above one of the nation's most historic cities—reports of bald eagle sightings are pouring in around Boston. More than 50 confirmed breeding pairs have been spotted, a record since the birds were reintroduced to Massachusetts in 1982. The resurgence brings some problems, though, including a strange one involving deer carcasses.
