(Newser) – There will be no Cinderella story for George Mason this year in the NCAA tournament, as  Notre Dame beat out the Patriots, 68-50, reports the Associated Press. Despite a great performance by Will Thomas, who scored 25 points, George Mason just didn’t have the same fire that lit them through to the Final Four two years ago, as the Fighting Irish proved too much to overcome.

Notre Dame enjoyed another stellar performance by star forward Luke Harangody, who led the team with 18 points and 14 boards. The Big East Player of the Year captured the 18th double-double of his illustrious season. Next fight for the Irish will be Washington State, who they’ll face Saturday in the second round of the East Regional.
