British Teen Found Dead in Goa 'Was Drowned'

Posted Mar 23, 08 1:51 PM CDT in World Crime & Courts

(Newser) – In the latest tragedy involving a girl on vacation, medical authorities have determined a British teen was deliberately drowned after a night of partying in the Indian tourist hotspot of Goa, the Guardian reports. Scarlett Keeling, 15, disappeared during a holiday last month on Ajuna beach. Her battered and partially clothed body was later found on shore, and local authorities initially ruled her death an accidental drowning.

"The bruising on her head, face and shoulder is consistent" with the new finding, said her mom, who has charged local police with covering up her daughter's murder. "She struggled, she kicked, she tried to stay alive." Goan authorities are holding one man on suspicion of rape and another for allegedly drugging Keeling and assisting in her murder.
