As far as the Internet is concerned, Prince's death is basically the only important thing that happened today. A sampling of the coverage and tributes:

  • If it's tributes you're looking for, many celebrities have weighed in, and multiple news outlets are rounding up their words. Those outlets include the BBC, CNN, the Mirror, and Time. Even brands are mourning Prince, and Snapchat added a special geofilter to honor him.
  • President Obama weighed in too; the AP has his statement on the "creative icon."
  • The Toronto Star takes a look at the social media furor surrounding Prince's death, including stats like this: Within an hour of Prince's death, there were about 45,000 tweets per minute.
  • In response to news of Prince's death, MTV canceled its regular programming and started playing nonstop Prince music videos, The Week reports.
