Denver's Smith Closes Out Memphis

Posted Mar 25, 08 12:23 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Nuggets entered halftime down 57-51, and J.R. Smith had just two points entering the last frame, but Smith then scored 25—including 21 from long-range—and his team prevailed over the Grizzlies, 120-106. Denver's dynamic duo of Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson combined to add 49, and Marcus Camby blocked seven shots.

Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay led all scorers with 30 points, and Hakim Warrick notched 29. It would have been a third straight win for largely hapless Memphis, but instead it was Denver who made it three straight. Effused Smith: "It felt like shooting in the ocean, you just can't miss... Hopefully, I'll have more nights like this."
