It's time to do something about painkiller addiction, writes Jamie Lee Curtis in the Huffington Post, where she reveals that she was once addicted, like Prince reportedly was. "I too, waited anxiously for a prescription to be filled for the opiate I was secretly addicted to. I too, took too many at once. I too, sought to kill emotional and physical pain with pain killers. Kill it. Make it stop," she writes. She's been in recovery for more than 17 years, but "too many" others, celebrities and non-celebrities alike, aren't so lucky.

Authorities finally seem to be making a serious effort to do something about the epidemic of opiate addiction, with the CDC, for example, recently making an attempt to rein in painkiller over-prescription. "Most people who become addicted, like me, do so after a prescription for a painkiller following a medical procedure. Once the phenomenon of craving sets in, it is often too late," Curtis writes. "I, like all of you, mourn the passing of a great artist but I also mourn the passing of potential artists past and present, caught in this deadly vise." Click for her full piece.
