Flames Climb Out of Hole to Shock Canucks

Posted Mar 26, 08 3:16 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Calgary Flames turned a 2-0 disadvantage into a 3-2 victory last night, capitalizing on two third-period power plays 41 seconds apart to shake Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo. The win sends the Flames to the top of the Northwest Division, and seeds them third for the Western Conference playoffs, the Calgary Herald reports. Elsewhere in the league:

  • Johan Franzen picked up his 11th goal in as many games for Detroit and his team-leading seventh game winner in the Red Wings' 2-1 defeat of St. Louis.
  • Phoenix rookie Martin Hanzal saved his team with an overtime goal to stymie red-hot San Jose 5-4, handing the Sharks their first road loss in 10 games.
