Reid: Race Will End Before Convention

Posted Mar 26, 08 11:12 AM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – The top Senate Democrat says his party's presidential nomination will be wrapped up before the Aug. 25-28 convention. “It will be done,” majority leader Harry Reid declared of the race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama—adding mysteriously, Politico reports, that he’d spoken to party chairman Howard Dean and that “things are being done.”

Reid said he doubted Michigan and Florida would hold new primaries, but that the outlaw delegates will somehow “be a part of the convention." One of the most powerful undeclared Democrats also isn't worried about the impact of squabbling on the party’s general-election chances, the AP adds: Clinton and Obama are “basically the same” on the big issues, and healing will be quick.
