The world has a new No. 1 restaurant, at least according to one ranking. Italy's Osteria Francescana has unseated Spain's El Celler de Can Roca for the top spot in the annual World's 50 Best Restaurants list. The top American restaurant came in at No. 3, Eleven Madison Park in New York City. The list is a rival to the Michelin stars rating system, notes Quartz, and it's based on the votes of 1,000 anonymous chefs, journalists, and other food experts. The top chef at Osteria Francescana, Massimo Bottura, offers dishes "that combine tradition and irreverence and touch all the senses," says CNN.

The top 10:

  1. Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy
  2. El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain
  3. Eleven Madison Park in New York City
  4. Central in Lima, Peru
  5. Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark
  6. Mirazur in Menton, Spain
  7. Mugaritz in San Sebastián, Spain
  8. Narisawa in Tokyo, Japan
  9. Steirereck in Vienna, Austria
  10. Asador Etxebarri in Axpe, Spain
