For those of you wondering what a "Hiddleswift" is and why it's trending on Twitter, allow us to help you out. On Wednesday, British tabloid the Sun published photos of Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston (aka Loki) making out on a Rhode Island beach, and everyone started flipping their lids. Some of the related coverage currently blowing up the worldwide web:

  • Why is everyone freaking out? Slate delves into the reasons, including the fact that Swift just broke up with Calvin Harris two weeks ago.
  • Speaking of Calvin Harris, he feels "betrayed," sources tell TMZ.
  • New York magazine has a lengthy piece postulating that the Hiddleston hookup was all staged, by Swift, to divert attention from a new Kim Kardashian interview that's not flattering to Swift.

  • Fans seem to agree; the Telegraph says they're "pouring scorn" on what they see as a "PR stunt."
  • What does it all mean? The Atlantic gets deep: "The point of the images was, in other words, to inspire fan fiction. The pictures served not as a story unto themselves, as the Sun claimed, but rather as a prompt for participation in the new form of literature that has emerged on the internet: a genre that invites fans to fill in the blanks with their own ideas and hatreds and hopes and truths."
  • If you don't particularly care whether it's a PR stunt, real live romance, or fan fiction, you could just enjoy these Hiddleswift memes rounded up by MTV.
