Stocks ended slightly higher after traders were relieved to hear Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen say the Fed would remain cautious in raising interest rates, the AP reports. Trading remained subdued Tuesday ahead of Britain's referendum on its membership in the European Union later this week. Energy and telecom companies made the biggest gains. Marathon Oil jumped 4% and Verizon and AT&T each rose about 1%. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 24 points, or 0.1%, to 17,829. The Standard & Poor's 500 index added 5 points, or 0.3%, to 2,088. The Nasdaq composite climbed 6 points, or 0.1%, to 4,843. (More Dow Jones stories.)
