Size Doesn't Matter As Texas Beats Stanford

Posted Mar 28, 08 11:30 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – D.J. Augustin had 21 points, seven assists and triggered a 20-3 second half run as Texas broke open a one-point game and defeated third-seeded Stanford, 82-62. Augustin scored eight points during that stretch and fed Damion James on a big-time dunk that brought a roar from the partisan crowd. James had 18 points while early-round star A.J. Abrams had 12, writes the AP.

The No. 2 seeds in the South regional, essentially playing a home game in Houston, used 299-pound Dexter Pittman on Stanford's Brook Lopez, frustrating the talented sophomore, though he led his squad with 26 points. "I thought (Pittman) was huge," said Texas coach Rick Barnes. The Cardinal also shot poorly from outside, making nothing over eight feet nearly the entire first half.
