"Valiente" (brave) and "esperanza" (hope) were two of the words spoken by the Democratic National Convention's youngest speaker Monday when she took the stage with an emotional appeal about immigration reform. Karla Ortiz, 11—best known for her tearful meeting with Hillary Clinton in February in Las Vegas about her parents' deportation order, which turned into a Clinton ad—appeared with her mother, Francisca, to explain how even though she is an American citizen, she lives in fear that her undocumented parents could be sent away at any time. "Soy Americana!" she exclaimed, as supporters in the audience held up "Love trumps hate" signs in the audience. She ended her short message by noting she planned to become an attorney to help families like hers and pronouncing "Hillary Clinton for president!" (More Democratic National Convention stories.)
