Oilers Best Rival Flames to Keep Hopes Alight

Posted Mar 30, 08 4:40 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Not much happened for the first 45 minutes of the Oilers' matchup with the Flames, except for 37 shots on goal. Then three more shots led to three goals within a five-minute span, and when the ice had cleared Edmonton had the 2-1 victory—and the shot at a playoff run, reports the National Post. In hockey action farther south:

Duncan Keith and Craig Adams each had a goal and assist on the way to a 4-0 Chicago lead that was nearly squandered in the third period. St. Louis got as close as 4-3 in a rollicking game featuring 20 penalties and plenty of fights. The win keeps the Blackhawks in tenuous reach of the playoffs, while the Blues remain in the basement.
