LSU Makes It Five Straight Final Fours

Posted Apr 1, 08 12:16 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The LSU Lady Tigers reached their fifth consecutive Final Four by ousting top-seeded North Carolina 56-50 in the women’s NCAA tournament. Sylvia Fowles led LSU with 21 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked and was also named most outstanding player of the New Orleans regional. The loss snaps the Tar Heels’ 16-game winning streak, reports the Associated Press.

North Carolina was only down three at halftime but their offense stagnated in the second. LaToya Pringle did score 19 of her 21 after the break but the rest of the Tar Heels combined to produce just 10 points over the last 20 minutes. "Defense has been our bread and butter all year," Fowles said of LSU’s effort.
