MIT is making old hat of this: For the fifth straight year, it sits atop an annual ranking of the world's universities by the education group Quacquarelli Symonds. The survey takes into account factors including research quality, employment for grads, and teaching quality. MIT also ranks first in 12 of 42 individual disciplines, notes MIT News. US schools took the first three spots, with the University of Cambridge notably not among the top three for the first time, reports the Guardian. Uncertainty over funding in the wake of Brexit is blamed for a general tumble of UK universities in the QS survey. Here are the top 10:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  2. Stanford
  3. Harvard
  4. Cambridge
  5. California Institute of Technology
  6. Oxford
  7. University College London
  8. Swiss Federal Institute of Techology
  9. Imperial College London
  10. University of Chicago
