Dodger Pitching Silences Giant Bats in 5-0 Win

Posted Mar 31, 08 11:42 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Four Dodgers pitchers combined to throw a five-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over the Giants. Brad Penny (1-0), making his first ever opening-day start, tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings. "Pitching is what it's all about, and today was a very easy game to watch," Joe Torre said about his first game in Dodger blue, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Jeff Kent’s two-run first inning home run off San Francisco starter Barry Zito (0-1) gave Los Angeles a 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Penny added a bit of insurance for him self when his pop-up was dropped and turned into a fielder’s choice which scored James Loney from third. Andruw Jones went 1-for-4 in his Los Angeles debut.
