It was a PTA drama so bizarre it could have been a Hollywood movie, and now it will be. Julia Roberts is planning to star in and produce a film based on the awful experience of Kelli Peters, reports Mashable. As the LA Times recounted in a series, Peters had her life upended in Irvine, California, when the parents of a child in the school where she volunteered thought she dissed their son and sought revenge. (She called him "slow," but referring to his pace, not his intelligence.) They did so in epic fashion by planting drugs in her car and calling police, though the truth eventually won out and Peters' enemies got jail time and probation.

No word yet on timing, but the movie is reportedly being pitched to major studios. The film will be based on a book co-written by Peters called 'I’ll Get You!’ Drugs, Lies, and the Terrorizing of a PTA Mom. It's not clear whether it will incorporate the LAT series as well. Roberts has experience portraying real-life women, of course, most notably in the example of Erin Brockovich, notes Deadline. (Click for a list of the best movies based on true stories.)
