If, like Gary Johnson, you find yourself in a state of perpetual disgust over this year's presidential campaign, he has a suggestion: Vote for Gary Johnson. In an op-ed in the New York Times, the Libertarian candidate makes the case that America itself isn't out of whack, only its two-party political system. "Contrary to the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates, Bill and I don’t believe the United States is a polarized nation," he writes, referring to running mate Bill Weld. "Hyper-partisanship may be entertaining, but it’s a terrible way to try to run a country," he writes. "We’re the alternative—and we’re the only ticket that offers Americans a chance to find common ground."

He says he and Weld run the gamut from fiscal conservatism (believing the government is too big) to social liberalism (believing in the need for fundamental reform of the criminal justice system). He also wants to "stop treating immigration as a bad thing"—give law-abiding undocumented residents a chance to remain, then ditch the idea of quotas and focus instead on keeping only criminals out. Other "common-sense" solutions are in reach for a range of issues, he writes, no matter how much politicians complain about the divide between red and blue America. "We are the party that can break the partisan gridlock which for too long has kept real solutions out of reach." Click for his full column. (More Gary Johnson 2016 stories.)
