(Newser) – The Carolina Hurricanes moved to within one win of claiming the Southeast Division title after defeating the last-place Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2. Chad LaRose recorded a hat trick for the victors. Net minder Cam Ward had 23 saves in his career-high 19th consecutive start for Carolina. Martin St. Louis had two points in the loss, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Zach Parise’s beautiful backhander in the fourth round of the shootout beat Bruins goalie Tim Thomas high on the glove side to give the Devils a 3-2 win.
  • Sidney Crosby scored twice as the Penguins defeated the Flyers 4-2 and clinched the Atlantic Division crown. The loss puts Philadelphia on the brink of missing the postseason.
