Google Android a Hit with AT&T

Posted Apr 3, 08 12:01 PM CDT in Business Technology

(Newser) – Google’s Android mobile operating system may find a home with AT&T, the Wall Street Journal reports. Signalling what could be a major victory for the platform, the telecom’s wireless chief said he was “confident” Android “is something we are going to want in our portfolio.” He cited its open-source technology, which would allow AT&T flexibility in customizing its phones’ software.

If AT&T committed to Android, it would be the third and largest US mobile carrier to do so--T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel have already endorsed the service. The operating system aims to provide users with a number of applications, including a web browser to rival the iPhone’s, while allowing third-party software developers free rein to design for it.
