(Newser) – Life is short, time is precious, and these bromides mean we simply shouldn't be wasting our efforts on what the Guardian calls "pointless" and "useless" habits we've apparently been brainwashed into adopting. Inspired by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges' list of 40 medical treatments that people should dismiss—City AM has the full list of those—the Guardian calls out a rather tongue-in-cheek list of other routines we should reconsider. The top 10 "don't bothers" for Americans:

  1. Eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day
  2. Taking vitamin C supplements
  3. Flossing
  4. Washing your jeans
  5. Having a landline
  6. Drinking eight glasses of water a day
  7. Putting food in your fridge that doesn't need to be refrigerated
  8. Washing your hair every day
  9. Peeling vegetables
  10. Owning more than 10 items of clothing
Check out the full list at the Guardian for dozens more.
