Stocks are closing lower on Wall Street after several companies issued disappointing results and forecasts, the AP reports. Athletic apparel maker Under Armour sank 13% Tuesday as investors worried that its growth is slowing down. Appliance maker Whirlpool dropped 11% after its own results came up short of forecasts. Sherwin-Williams, which makes paints and coatings, plunged 11% after cutting its full-year forecast because of slower sales growth and higher spending on new stores. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 54 points, or 0.3%, to 18,169. The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 8 points, or 0.4%, to 2,143. The Nasdaq composite declined 26 points, or 0.5%, to 5,283.
