(Newser) – Wonder what it's like to be as high—on life and on couch cushions—as Tom Cruise? Head west, where licensed California medical-marijuana dealers are hawking a bud called "Tom Cruise Purple." The vials reportedly feature the actor's maniacally laughing mug—and aficionados say it'll have you hallucinating in no time, the New York Daily News reports.

Predictably, the actor's camp has called the stunt "outrageous." Per Scientology guidelines, the 45-year-old Cruise opposes the use of psychotropic drugs and has dispatched his minions to put the kibosh on his wacky-weed namesake.

(NEWSER) - The US county with one of the highest concentrations of pot farms—and tokers—is finally caving in to pressure from the feds. California officials in Mendocino County are snuffing out an innovative medical marijuana program that put pot growers under the supervision of the county sheriff. The program was the first of its kind in the nation, and was generally a hit with locals—but not with federal law enforcement, reports NPR . Sheriff's Sergeant Randy Johnson supervised some 100 growers in the county and earned his department more than $500,000 in fees. More and more California operations are using medical marijuana couriers to get their weed into the hands of those who need it, operators tell the San Francisco Chronicle . Medithrive, for one example, was a pot dispensary in San Francisco that was forced to close last month and has re-emerged as a delivery-only service. "It just makes sense," says an attorney who represents a Ukiah pot delivery operation. "When you have a storefront, you're on the map. You don't have those issues with a delivery service.
