Major US stock indexes ended slightly lower after an early gain faded away, the AP reports. Financial and technology stocks had the biggest declines on Friday, outweighing gains in smaller sectors like utilities and real estate companies. Business software company Oracle dropped 4% after reporting revenue that fell short of analysts' forecasts. Trading was relatively quiet. Six industry sectors in the Standard & Poor's 500 index rose and five fell. The S&P 500 slipped 4 points, or 0.2%, to 2,258. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 9 points, or 0.1%, to 19,843. The Nasdaq composite lost 19 points, or 0.4%, to 5,437. (More Dow Jones stories.)
