SEC Gets Lessons on Terrorism

Posted May 21, 07 2:03 PM CDT in Business

(Newser) – For the first time in history, the SEC is being briefed on a different kind of security: homeland security. Barron's revealed that the CIA is filling in the SEC every month about terrorists and other criminals who might affect world stock markets.

SEC chairman Christopher Cox said the briefings gave them insight into an "underworld of murky, illegal dealings that threaten the world capital markets." Examples include money laundering,  stock trading by terrorists to raise money, and foreign nationals hacking into US brokerages to raise their own stock value.
