Young's 2 Homers Lift Diamondbacks

Posted Apr 6, 08 2:33 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The Arizona Diamondbacks spoiled the unveiling of the Colorado's National League championship banner by beating the Rockies 7-2 last night. Chris Young hit two homers and Brandon Webb (2-0) allowed only one earned run and five hits over seven innings for the Diamondbacks. Justin Upton had a solo homer in the second inning, his third of the season, and two singles.

Webb (2-0) stymied Colorado, giving up just one earned run. He walked one and struck out five in a very efficient 98-pitch outing. It was his second straight solid performance as he gave up two runs in six innings during a season-opening win against Cincinnati on March 31. So much for his troubles in spring training, where Webb allowed 17 earned runs in 18 innings spanning five spring starts.
