It's the year of the threequels. With the success of the third Spider-Man and this weekend's triumph of Shrek the Third, all eyes are on the upcoming third Pirates of the Carribean.  Dreamworks bigwigs were cautious leading up to green monster's latest bow, but its $122 million take smashed the previous record for an animated film of $108 million—set by Shrek II.

Shrek's next quest is to hold steady  against Pirates next weekend, and in the international market, where it's being rolled out to coincide with holidays around the world, the LA Times reports. Last summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," captured the opening-weekend record that had been held by "Spider-Man." (More box office stories.)
