Police in Pennsylvania were scratching their heads after a motorist they were chasing allegedly drove her SUV into a river, ignored their entreaties, and drank a beer. The York Daily Record reports the odd incident unfolded Monday afternoon when the woman blew through a stop sign in York County. Police say they gave chase for about a mile before calling it off. "She failed to yield and we believe the driver was attempting to elude the officer," the police chief says. The 2011 Subaru was later spotted in a parking lot of a boat dock known as "The Point," an apparent favorite of mischief-makers. "A lot of people hide from us down there," Newberry Township Police Sgt. Keith Farren tells YDR.

As police approached the SUV, "for whatever reason" the woman gunned the engine and ended up in the Susquehanna River. Floating 20 feet offshore, she ignored cops as they tried to help her. "She stayed in the car and continued to drink her beer," Farren says. Firefighters in a boat eventually brought the driver back to shore. "She was in and out of consciousness," says Farren. The unidentified woman was taken to a hospital. No charges have been filed, but there are two pending violations, and police say the investigation is continuing, reports Penn Live.
