Devils Get Home-Ice vs. Rangers

Posted Apr 6, 08 8:42 PM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – The New Jersey Devils captured home-ice advantage for their first-round playoff series against the Rangers with a 3-2 shootout win over their longtime New York area archrivals today. Zach Parise and Patrik Elias scored in the four-round shootout that the Devils won 2-1. John Madden and Mike Rupp scored for the Devils, while Chris Drury and Jaromir Jagr tallied for the Rangers.

The Rangers came into the game knowing they had to win in regulation to get the fourth seed and they failed to do that despite pulling their goalie in the closing 65 seconds of regulation with the score tied 2-all. The best-of-seven first round series is expected to open at the Prudential Center on Wednesday.
