A Florida man impersonated his wife on Facebook in a chilling effort to hide the fact that he had just murdered her, police say. According to an Orlando police report seen by People, George McShane, 42, allegedly strangled Kristen McShane on Jan. 7 and then logged into the 30-year-old's Facebook account to prevent friends and family members becoming suspicious when she didn't return their calls. "I can’t believe I dropped my phone in the toilet. I'm such an idiot," he posted. "Message me here, til I can get it fixed." In the days between the murder and McShane's arrest, he apparently replied to messages suggesting ways to fix the phone and changed her profile photo to one of a little girl sleeping, the Washington Post reports.

According to the police report, a suspicious relative called police on Jan. 10. They discovered Kristen McShane's body in bed covered by a quilt, with George McShane in an SUV with the engine running in an apparent suicide attempt. He has been charged with second-degree murder and domestic battery by strangulation, the Citizen-Times reports. McShane's father says the marriage "went south real quick" in recent weeks. "My daughter eventually had all she could take and wanted out," he says, but she never got the chance to make the move. A GoFundMe page has been started to help Kristen McShane's 3-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter. (Weeks after disturbing posts appeared on a man's Facebook page, police freed his girlfriend from captivity and found his body in a shallow grave.)
